Maria Bokor, MPT, offers gentle treatment sessions using varied osteopathic-based techniques and movement training drawn from Qigong, Iyengar yoga, and Gordon Browne's Feldenkrais-based courses. Maria offers therapy for pelvic floor dysfunction, concussion recovery, vertigo, chronic pain, and most other conditions that respond to physical therapy treatment.
Craniosacral therapy uses light touch to the head and other parts of the body to stimulate greater fluid flow and to help muscles rebalance. It can be very effective with headache pain, chronic neck pain, and sacral imbalances. For clients interested in exploring somatic issues, this approach often helps to release traumatic tissue memory, such as after an MVA or other accident.
Visceral work includes techniques to promote more healthy functioning of the vagus nerve and the various sphincters of the digestive system, as well as to help alleviate areas of scar tissue that often develop after abdominal surgery or injury. Often, this work allows relief of back pain, neck pain, pelvic pain or hip stiffness by promoting improved blood flow and movement of the internal organs.
Neural manual therapy addresses the health of the peripheral nerves by using techniques that break up areas of swelling, and thus allowing better blood flow through the nerve and increased signal to the hands or feet. Often, both range of motion and strength are improved immediately after treatment. This technique can address tendonitis, overuse, post-surgical stiffness, and pain.
Maria’s training includes multiple courses through the Upledger Institute, the Barral Institute, Vita-Vis, and the Hugh Milne Institute, as well as qigong training with Professor Hui-xian Chen and Gordon Brown's movement certification course.
Maria first met Tim Sobie at a yoga class while she was completing her physical therapy degree at the University of Puget Sound. Tim invited her to collaborate with him on a TMJ study about the efficacy of the Feldenkrais technique, which she used for her master’s thesis. She also later completed Gordon Browne’s two-year certification in Feldenkrais-based movement techniques. Currently, she provides a blended treatment approach at the Tacoma main office of Alliant that integrates craniosacral, visceral, neural manual glides, yoga and Qigong, as well as Gordon Browne movement.
